Redistricting in Lackawanna County

The United States Census is a decennial census mandated by the United States Constitution. The population is counted every 10 years and the results are used to allocate Congressional seats (congressional apportionment), electoral votes, and government program funding. Pennsylvania also uses that time to conduct their own reapportionment to adjust the districts of both the House and the Senate to account for population shifts.

The changes made to the districts go into effect for election purposes immediately but the districts remain the same for the purposes of representation until someone is elected and sworn in to represent the new district.

We will vote for candidates in 2012 according to the new district boundaries. Candidates for delegate and alternate delegate will also be elected from the new districts, not the current ones.

PA-10 Congressional District Currently Held by Tom Marino (R):

The PA-10 portion of Lackawanna County includes the Townships of Abington, Benton, Carbondale Northeast, Carbondale South, Clifton, Covington, Elmhurst, Fell, Gelnburn, Greenfield, Jefferson, La Plume, Madison, Newton, North Abington, and the Boroughts of Archbald Wards 2 & 3, Clarks Green, Clarks Summit, Dalton, Moscow, Olyphant Wards 3-2 and Ward 4, Throop Ward 4, and Vandling.


PA-17 Congressional District Currently Held by Tim Holden (D):

The PA-17 portion of Lackawanna County includes the cities of Carbondale and Scranton, the Townships of Carbondale Northwest, Spring Brook, Thornhurst, and the Boroughs of Archbald Wards 1 & 4, Blakely, Dickson City, Dunmore, Jermyn, Jessup, Mayfield, Moosic, Old Forge, Olyphant Wards 1, 2, 3-1, Taylor, and Throop Wards 1, 2, & 3.


22nd Senatorial District Currently Held by John Blake (D):

LACKAWANNA and LUZERNE Counties.

All of LACKAWANNA County and Part of LUZERNE County consisting of the CITY of Pittston and the TOWNSHIPS of Jenkins and Pittston and the BOROUGHS of Avoca, Dupont, Duryea, Exeter, Hughestown, Laflin, West Pittston and Yatesville.

Total population: 254,281


112th Legislative District Currently Held by Ken Smith (D):

LACKAWANNA County.

Part of LACKAWANNA County consisting of the CITY of Scranton (PART, Wards 09, 10, 11, 12, 17 and 19 [PART, Divisions 01 and 02]) and the BOROUGHS of Archbald, Blakely, Dunmore, Jessup, Olyphant and Throop.

LACKAWANNA County.
